Past Life Experience — just for fun

You don't have to "believe" in past lives to enjoy a past life experience. And having a past life experience doesn't "prove" you lived in the past. But it can be very convincing. Many people under hypnosis tell of extremely vivid pre-birth experiences, even if they firmly do not believe in past lives.

So where do past life experiences come from? Some people think they are real memories from an earlier life, conveyed through the spirit. Others believe they are hereditary memories, passed down to us just like our natural instincts. The one thing I am sure of is that I don't know.

Here's one theory. The unconscious mind is an immense storehouse of experience. It sees and retains everything, but only has the reasoning power of a five-year-old. A child experiencing a film or a storybook may get so immersed that they fold its content into their own play, their dreams or daydreams. The unconscious will remember these fantasy sensations, without really knowing how to use them. The rational adult knows he or she was not really a cowboy fighting Indians, or someone of the opposite sex living in medieval times. And yet these memories are quite real. So the "logical" explanation is that the memories must come from a time before they were born.

The truth is, it doesn't matter if past life memories are of real experiences or not. They are in your head. And they can be accessed under hypnosis.

This can happen in a therapeutic context. But you can also engage in past life experience just for pure enjoyment. It's fun, it's stimulating, and it's quite harmless.

How does past life experience work? The process is simple. You'll be totally aware of what's happening at all times, and you can stop whenever you like. You will go into a light hypnotic trance, and will visualize a corridor with many doors. You may choose any door and go through to another world. Once through the door, you will feel like another person in another time.

Much more than any movie or computer game, this experience can be quite as realistic as life itself. Depending on your perceptual abilities you will be able to see, hear, touch and smell everything — just as in a vivid dream, except that you will be guided through it. If you do believe in reincarnation, and think you know someone from a previous life, you will be able to meet them face to face. But again, you don't need to believe. This is "just for fun".

Past life experience is distinct from therapy. In root cause hypnotherapy we address the source of a behaviour conflict, which is usually an early traumatic event. Sometimes that event is perceived as having occurred in a previous life. It is inconsequential whether the past life was "real" or not: the aim is to bring the unconscious mind to terms with what it does remember. Read more at www.rootcausehypnotherapy.com.
